“Praise God, from whom all blessings flow.” The Doxology reminds us that every good gift comes from God and calls us to respond with gratitude, worship, and praise.
Doxology
Worship Words: Giving Praise to God
The Doxology is a short hymn of praise often sung during worship. The word doxology means “words of glory” or “words of praise.”
At Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, we sing the Doxology as a way of giving thanks to God for His goodness, His gifts, and His faithfulness.
Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow
The familiar words remind us that every blessing comes from God:
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
Why We Sing the Doxology
When we sing the Doxology, we remember:
God is the giver of every good gift.
Our lives belong to Him.
Our offerings are an act of worship.
Praise is not just something we say—it is something we live.
In Worship
The Doxology is often sung after the offering is received. This helps us connect giving with worship.
We are not simply placing money in a plate. We are offering our gratitude, our trust, and our lives back to God.
Grounded in Scripture
“Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights.”
— James 1:17, NASB
Why It Matters
The Doxology teaches us to see life with gratitude.
When we sing it, we are reminded that our blessings are not random. They come from God’s hand. Our response is worship, thanksgiving, and faithful living.
Walk It Out
This week, pause and ask:
What blessing can I thank God for today?
How can I use what God has given me to bless someone else?
How can my whole life become an offering of praise?
