Grow Through Study

Growing Deeper Through God’s Word

Every season of life teaches us something.

Some lessons come through joy.
Some through loss.
Some through questions, struggles, change, or waiting.

But one of the ways God continually shapes and strengthens His people is through study—learning His Word, understanding His truth, and allowing Scripture to guide everyday life.

At Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, we believe spiritual growth happens when faith moves beyond simply hearing and becomes part of how we think, live, serve, and follow Christ.

Study is not just about gaining information.
It is about transformation.

Grounded in Scripture (Truth)

“All Scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man or woman of God may be fully capable, equipped for every good work.”
— 2 Timothy 3:16–17 (NASB)

“Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.”
— Psalm 119:105 (NASB)

God’s Word teaches us:

  • who God is
  • how deeply we are loved
  • how to live faithfully
  • how to grow in wisdom and discernment
  • how to remain steady in difficult seasons

Scripture becomes both anchor and guide.

Why Study Matters (Reason)

Faith grows when we intentionally spend time with God.

Study helps us:

  • move beyond surface-level faith
  • understand Scripture more clearly
  • recognize truth in a confusing world
  • deepen trust during uncertain seasons
  • develop spiritual maturity
  • strengthen our relationship with Christ

Christian growth does not happen overnight.

Like roots growing deeper beneath a tree, spiritual growth often happens slowly, faithfully, and consistently over time.

Sometimes study brings encouragement.
Sometimes conviction.
Sometimes comfort.
Sometimes challenge.

But through every season, God continues shaping us.

Study Is More Than Information

Biblical study is not simply collecting facts or gaining knowledge.

True spiritual study changes:

  • our hearts
  • our thinking
  • our priorities
  • our relationships
  • our response to others
  • our daily walk with God

The goal is not simply to know more about Scripture.

The goal is to know God more deeply and follow Him more faithfully.

Growing Through Every Season

There are seasons when study feels exciting and full of discovery.

There are also seasons when:

  • life feels busy
  • faith feels difficult
  • questions feel heavy
  • motivation feels low
  • grief or stress makes concentration difficult

Yet even in those seasons, small moments spent in God’s Word still matter.

A single verse can bring peace.
A quiet prayer can restore hope.
A Bible study can remind us we are not alone.

God often works steadily through ordinary faithfulness.

Ways We Grow Through Study

Spiritual growth can happen through:

  • personal Bible reading
  • Sunday School classes
  • group studies
  • sermons
  • worship
  • prayer
  • discussion with other believers
  • journaling and reflection
  • asking questions
  • listening and learning together

Faith grows best in community.

We were never meant to walk alone.

The Example of the Early Church

The early believers devoted themselves to learning together.

“They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”
— Acts 2:42 (NASB)

Study, worship, fellowship, and prayer were connected.

They still are today.

Healthy discipleship involves:

  • Heart (Piety)
  • Mind (Study)
  • Action (Service)

Like a three-legged stool, spiritual life grows stronger when all three work together.

Walk It Out (Response)

You do not have to understand everything at once to begin growing.

Start where you are.

Take one step at a time:

  • read one passage
  • ask one question
  • join one study
  • reflect on one truth
  • pray one honest prayer

Growth often begins quietly.

Over time, God uses those small faithful steps to shape a stronger, deeper faith.

Worship Reflection: “Thy Word Is a Lamp Unto My Feet”

God’s Word does more than teach us information—it guides our steps, strengthens our faith, and gives light for the journey ahead. The song “Thy Word Is a Lamp Unto My Feet” reminds us that Scripture is not only something we study, but something we live by each day.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105 (NASB)
