Harvest Festival at Pleasant Grove UMC — Food, Fellowship, and Community Tradition

For decades, Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church has welcomed families, friends, neighbors, and visitors from across the Birmingham area to our annual Harvest Festival.

What began as a community tradition has grown into a day filled with fellowship, homemade food, music, crafts, laughter, service, and shared memories.

The Harvest Festival is more than a community event. It is an opportunity to experience God’s love through hospitality, fellowship, and serving together.

From homemade apple pies and bake sale favorites to soups, sandwiches, vendors, crafts, and Trash & Treasure shopping, the festival brings generations together in a spirit of joy and community connection.

At Pleasant Grove UMC, we believe ministry happens not only in worship services, but also around tables, in kitchens, through conversations, and in serving one another.

As a Beacon of Light in Pleasant Grove, western Birmingham, Jefferson County, and beyond, we are thankful for the many volunteers, families, church members, and community supporters who help make this tradition possible each year.

Homemade Apple Pies — A Harvest Festival Tradition

A Harvest Festival favorite for generations

A Harvest Festival favorite for generations

making apple pies

It takes lots of people working together to get the job done! Homemade apple pies prepared by volunteers at Pleasant Grove UMC continue a long-standing Harvest Festival tradition.
One of the

One of the most loved traditions of the Harvest Festival is our homemade apple pies.

For many years, church members worked side by side preparing apples, rolling crusts, assembling pies, baking, packaging, and preparing hundreds of pies for the festival.

The women of Martin Memorial played an important role in continuing this tradition through years of dedicated service, fellowship, and ministry.

What began as pie-making became something much deeper — a ministry of hospitality, teamwork, laughter, friendship, and service.

Long tables filled with apples, pie crusts, flour, and conversation became places where memories were made and generations worked together.
