Come and See

An Invitation to Encounter Christ

The Christian life begins with an invitation. Again and again in Scripture, people encounter Jesus because someone invites them to come closer, listen, see, and experience His grace for themselves.

“Come and see” is a simple phrase, but it carries deep meaning. It is not pressure. It is not a performance. It is an open invitation to discover who Jesus is, what He is doing, and how His love changes lives.

In John 1, when Nathanael wondered whether anything good could come from Nazareth, Philip did not argue with him. He simply said, “Come and see.” That invitation opened the door for Nathanael to meet Jesus for himself.

The Walk to Emmaus is built around that same spirit of invitation. It is a time set apart to encounter Christ, receive grace, grow in faith, and return home ready to live as a disciple in everyday life.

Grounded in Scripture

John 1:45–46 NASB
Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and the Prophets wrote: Jesus the son of Joseph, from Nazareth!” Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good be from Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”

Luke 24:30–32 NASB
When He had reclined at the table with them, He took the bread and blessed it, and He broke it and began giving it to them. And then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him; and He vanished from their sight. They said to one another, “Were our hearts not burning within us when He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?”

What This Means

“Come and see” reminds us that faith is not only something we explain. Faith is something we live, share, and invite others to experience.

Sometimes people need a gentle invitation before they are ready to take the next step. They may not know what to expect. They may have questions. They may feel unsure. But a faithful invitation can open the door for God to work.

The Walk to Emmaus is not the end of the journey. It is part of a lifelong walk with Christ. It helps people grow in grace, deepen their discipleship, and return to their church and community with renewed love for God and neighbor.

Why It Matters

Many people are hungry for hope, encouragement, and deeper faith. Some are waiting for someone to notice them, encourage them, and invite them into a place where they can experience Christian community.

“Come and see” is one of the simplest ways we share faith. We do not have to have every answer. We do not have to force anything. We simply point toward Christ and say, “There is room for you here.”

Walk It Out

Consider these questions:

Who once invited you to take a step closer to Christ?

Who might God be placing on your heart to invite?

How can you make your invitation gentle, loving, and sincere?

What would it look like to say “come and see” through your words, your welcome, and your daily life?

A Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You for inviting us to come near, listen, learn, and follow You. Help us extend that same invitation to others with humility, kindness, and love. Open our eyes to the people around us who need encouragement, hope, and Christian community. May our lives point others toward You. Amen.
