Care & Support

Caring for One Another Through Every Season of Life

Compassion. Encouragement. Healing. Hope.

At Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, we believe no one should walk through life’s difficult seasons alone.

Care & Support ministries help individuals and families experience the love of Christ through prayer, encouragement, friendship, practical care, wellness ministries, educational resources, and compassionate community.

Whether someone is facing illness, grief, caregiving responsibilities, loneliness, recovery, aging, uncertainty, or spiritual struggles, we seek to walk alongside one another with faith, hope, and love.

As neighbors become family, we support one another through both joyful seasons and difficult seasons of life.

We believe Christian care involves the whole person—body, mind, heart, and spirit.

Through ministries such as the Prayer Shawl Ministry, Wellness & Learning programs, health fairs, Chair Yoga, Lunch & Learn events, caregiving resources, and faith-based encouragement, we seek to be a beacon of Christ’s light for people in Pleasant Grove, western Birmingham, Jefferson County, and surrounding communities.

No matter where you are in life’s journey, you are not alone.

How Can We Support You?

You are not alone.

At Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, neighbors become family, and we seek to walk together through every season of life.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Wrapped in Prayer and Love

The Prayer Shawl Ministry creates handmade shawls, blankets, and gifts that are shared with people experiencing illness, grief, recovery, difficult seasons, or major life transitions.

Every shawl represents prayer, compassion, encouragement, and the reminder that someone cares.

These gifts are often shared with hospital patients, homebound individuals, those recovering from surgery, people walking through grief, caregivers and families, and individuals facing difficult seasons of life.

The ministry reflects the heart of Christian community — offering comfort, hope, and tangible reminders of God’s love.

Encouragement often begins with a conversation, a prayer, or simply taking time to listen and care.

Prayer is one of the most meaningful ways we care for one another.

Throughout every season of life, our church family lifts up those who are hurting, grieving, recovering, celebrating, caregiving, or seeking peace and direction.

We believe prayer reminds people they are not alone and that God remains present even in difficult circumstances.

Care ministries at Pleasant Grove UMC may include prayer, encouragement, phone calls, check-ins, visits, support during illness or recovery, care during grief and loss, spiritual encouragement during hard seasons, and compassion for caregivers and families.
