The Lord’s Prayer

A Prayer Jesus Taught Us for Everyday Life

Some prayers stay with us for a lifetime. The Lord’s Prayer is one of them.

Spoken in worship services, whispered beside hospital beds, prayed around family tables, and remembered in quiet moments of fear and hope, these words have guided believers for generations.

Yet the Lord’s Prayer is more than words to repeat.

It is a pattern for life.

Jesus gave this prayer during the Sermon on the Mount, teaching His followers not only what to pray, but how to trust, worship, forgive, and live each day with God at the center.

The Lord’s Prayer reminds us:

  • God is a loving Father.
  • God’s name is holy.
  • God’s kingdom matters more than our own plans.
  • God provides for daily needs.
  • God offers forgiveness and calls us to forgive others.
  • God guides us through temptation and protects us from evil.
  • God alone deserves glory, honor, and praise.

Whether you have prayed these words for many years or are exploring them for the first time, this page invites you to slow down and pray through them line by line.

May this prayer shape not only the words we speak, but the lives we live.

Scripture

Matthew 6:9–13 (NASB)

“Our Father who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”
