Lent

Preparing Our Hearts for Easter

Lent is a season of prayer, repentance, reflection, and spiritual growth that helps Christians prepare for the celebration of Easter.

The season begins on Ash Wednesday and continues for forty days (excluding Sundays) leading up to Easter. Lent reminds believers of Jesus’ forty days in the wilderness and calls us to draw closer to God through prayer, Scripture, worship, fasting, and acts of service.

Lent is not simply about giving something up. It is about making room for God to work more deeply in our lives.

Preparing the Heart for Easter

What Is Lent?

Lent is one of the oldest seasons in the Christian calendar.

For centuries, Christians have used this season as a time to examine their hearts, confess sin, renew their faith, and prepare to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.

The forty days reflect several important biblical events:

The forty days of Jesus in the wilderness.

The forty years Israel spent in the wilderness.

Moses spending forty days on Mount Sinai.

Elijah’s forty-day journey to God’s mountain.

Throughout Scripture, periods of forty often represent preparation, testing, growth, and dependence upon God.

Why Christians Observe Lent

Lent helps believers slow down and focus on what matters most.

During this season Christians often:

Pray more intentionally.

Read Scripture more regularly.

Practice fasting.

Give generously.

Serve others.

Reflect on Christ’s sacrifice.

Prepare spiritually for Easter.

The goal is not self-improvement but a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.

Many Christians spend additional time in prayer during Lent, seeking God’s guidance, forgiveness, and renewal.

Fasting

Fasting is the voluntary setting aside of food, activities, or comforts in order to focus more fully on God.

Scripture Reading
