He Sent the Holy Spirit

The promise became power.
Easter Season: From Resurrection to Pentecost
The Easter journey moves from the empty tomb to an empowered church. On the day of Pentecost, the promise of Jesus became reality as the Holy Spirit was poured out upon the believers.
The followers of Jesus had waited in prayer, just as He instructed. Then suddenly the Spirit came with power. Fearful disciples became bold witnesses, and the church began its mission to the world.
Pentecost was not only a dramatic moment in history—it was the beginning of a new era of God’s presence among His people.
The Holy Spirit was sent to:
- Empower believers for witness
- Unite people from many backgrounds
- Guide the church in truth
- Strengthen believers in hardship
- Produce spiritual fruit
- Give gifts for ministry
- Keep Christ’s presence active among His people
At Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, we celebrate that the same Spirit still works in believers today.
What Happened at Pentecost?
The disciples were gathered together in prayer when the Holy Spirit came.
Scripture describes:
- A sound like a rushing mighty wind
- Tongues as of fire resting on them
- Believers filled with the Holy Spirit
- Praise spoken in many languages
- Crowds gathering in amazement
- Peter boldly preaching Christ
- Thousands responding in faith

Fearful followers became bold witnesses
