He Gave Hope

Hope rose with the morning light.

Easter Season: From Resurrection to Pentecost

After the resurrection, Jesus brought hope to hearts filled with fear, grief, and uncertainty. His followers had watched Him die. Their dreams seemed shattered, and their future felt unclear. But the risen Christ came to them with peace, purpose, and promise.

The resurrection changed everything.

Where there had been sorrow, Jesus brought joy.
Where there had been fear, Jesus brought peace.
Where there had been confusion, Jesus brought clarity.
Where there had been despair, Jesus brought hope.

At Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, we believe the hope of Easter is still alive today because Jesus is alive.

What Kind of Hope Did Jesus Give?

Biblical hope is more than wishful thinking. It is confident trust in God’s promises.

Jesus gave hope by:

  • Proving death was defeated
  • Showing that suffering is not the end
  • Bringing peace to fearful hearts
  • Restoring purpose to discouraged disciples
  • Promising His continued presence
  • Preparing believers for the Holy Spirit

The hope Jesus gives is steady, living, and eternal.

GROW Through Resurrection Hope

G — Grounded in Scripture

Key Scriptures

  • John 20:19–21
  • Luke 24:36–49
  • Romans 15:13
  • 1 Peter 1:3
  • Hebrews 6:19

“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace.”
— John 16:33 NASB

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ… who has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”
— 1 Peter 1:3 NASB

The resurrection assures us that God’s promises are trustworthy and His love is stronger than death.

R — Reasons We Believe

The resurrection gives reason for hope because it proves that God keeps His promises.

Jesus said He would rise again—and He did.

That means:

  • God’s Word can be trusted
  • Sin can be forgiven
  • Death is not the end
  • Christ reigns now
  • Our future is secure in Him

Christian hope rests on the living Christ, not changing circumstances.

O — Obedience in Action

Because Jesus gives hope, we are called to live differently.

We respond by:

  • Refusing despair
  • Trusting God in uncertainty
  • Encouraging others
  • Praying with confidence
  • Serving faithfully in hard seasons
  • Sharing the hope of Christ

Hope becomes visible when believers live with peace and courage.

W — Walk It Out

We walk in Easter hope when we:

  • Face problems with faith
  • Believe God can redeem pain
  • Remember that dark seasons do not last forever
  • Speak life-giving words
  • Keep trusting when answers are delayed
  • Look beyond today to God’s promises

Hope is not denial. Hope is confidence that Jesus is still at work.
