Soup Making Fellowship at Pleasant Grove UMC
Gathering Around the Table Through Fellowship and Service
At Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, fellowship is often built through simple moments shared together — conversations in the kitchen, hands working side by side, laughter around the tables, and neighbors becoming family.
Our Soup Making Fellowship brought church members and volunteers together to prepare homemade soup through a step-by-step process of planning, cooking, stirring, packaging, serving, and sharing. What began as a simple gathering became a meaningful reminder that ministry often happens in ordinary moments.
As people chopped vegetables, prepared ingredients, stirred large pots, and worked together throughout the day, the kitchen became more than a workspace. It became a place of connection, encouragement, teamwork, and joyful service.
This event reflected the heart of Pleasant Grove UMC’s mission to:
Love Boldly. Serve Joyfully. Lead Courageously.
It also reminded us that fellowship and service often go hand in hand. Around the table, stories were shared, friendships deepened, and community grew stronger.
A Step-by-Step Fellowship Experience
The photos from this event help tell the story of the entire process:
- Preparing ingredients
- Organizing supplies
- Cooking and stirring
- Working together in teams
- Packaging and serving
- Sharing meals and fellowship
- Cleaning up together afterward
Each step mattered because every person contributed something important.
More Than Soup
Events like this reflect the spirit of Christian community found throughout Scripture:
“They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” — Acts 2:42 (NASB)
Gathering around food has always been part of building relationships, encouraging one another, and sharing God’s love in practical ways.
This fellowship event became a reminder that ministry is not only what happens in the sanctuary on Sunday morning. Ministry also happens:
- in kitchens
- around tables
- through shared work
- through hospitality
- through simple acts of kindness and community
A Beacon of Light in Community
At Pleasant Grove UMC, we believe the church is called to be a Beacon of Light in Pleasant Grove, western Birmingham, Jefferson County, and beyond.
Moments like this help strengthen relationships within the church family while also creating opportunities to serve and welcome others with warmth, compassion, and joy.
Whether cooking, serving, cleaning, organizing, or simply sharing conversation, every act became part of building Christian community.
Looking Ahead
This soup-making fellowship may have started as a single event, but it opened the door for future opportunities to gather, serve, and connect through shared meals and community fellowship.
We look forward to future gatherings where neighbors become family and faith is lived out together in everyday life.
