Hope in Every Season
Because Jesus Christ is risen, believers have a living hope that remains steady through every season of life. God’s presence, promises, and faithfulness give strength for today and hope for tomorrow.
Morning Comes Again
Storms may come, but God’s faithfulness remains. Every sunrise reminds us of the hope we have in Christ.

Season 5: Living the Faith
Introduction
Life is not always easy.
Even faithful believers experience illness, grief, disappointment, uncertainty, loss, hardship, and seasons of waiting.
The Christians of the New Testament understood this reality well.
Many faced persecution.
Some lost family relationships because of their faith.
Others experienced suffering, imprisonment, or rejection.
Yet throughout the New Testament letters, one message appears again and again:
Do not lose hope.
Christian hope is not wishful thinking.
It is confident trust in God’s promises.
Because of Jesus Christ, believers can face difficult seasons with courage, perseverance, and faith.
This lesson explores how followers of Christ can remain hopeful even when life becomes challenging.

Historical Background
The early Church often faced difficult circumstances.
Believers were scattered throughout the Roman Empire.
Some experienced persecution.
Others faced uncertainty about the future.
The apostles wrote letters to encourage Christians to remain faithful and hopeful.
Their message was not based on changing circumstances.
Their hope was rooted in the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the promises of God.
That same hope remains available today.

Grounded in Scripture
A Living Hope
(1 Peter 1:3–9)
Peter reminds believers that their hope is alive because Jesus Christ is alive.
The resurrection changes everything.
Even during difficult seasons, believers can trust that God is still working.
Trials may test faith, but they do not remove God’s presence.
Christian hope rests on what God has already done and what He has promised to do.
Joy in Every Circumstance
(Philippians 4:4–9)
Paul wrote Philippians while imprisoned.
Yet the letter is filled with joy.
Paul encourages believers to:
Rejoice in the Lord
Pray about everything
Trust God’s peace
Focus on what is true and honorable
Joy is not dependent upon perfect circumstances.
Joy grows through confidence in God’s faithfulness.
Strength Through Christ
(Philippians 4:10–13)
Paul learned how to remain content during both abundance and hardship.
His strength came from Christ rather than circumstances.
Faith does not eliminate challenges.
Faith provides strength to face them.
God’s grace sustains believers through every season.
Fixing Our Eyes on Jesus
(Hebrews 12:1–3)
The writer of Hebrews compares the Christian life to a race.
Believers are encouraged to persevere and remain faithful.
The key is keeping our focus on Jesus.
When circumstances become difficult, Christ remains our example, source of strength, and foundation of hope.
Reasons We Believe
Hope Is Rooted in the Resurrection
Because Jesus conquered death, believers have confidence in God’s promises.
Christian hope is based on historical truth rather than human optimism.
God Is Present During Difficult Seasons
The New Testament never promises an easy life.
It does promise God’s presence.
Believers never walk through hardship alone.
Joy and Peace Come from God
Joy and peace are gifts of God’s presence, not simply the result of favorable circumstances.
Perseverance Strengthens Faith
God often uses difficult seasons to deepen trust and spiritual maturity.
Faith grows stronger when it is tested.
Obedience in Action
Hope in Every Season challenges believers to ask:
Where do I place my hope?
How do I respond when life becomes difficult?
Am I bringing my concerns to God in prayer?
What promises of Scripture encourage me?
How can I encourage someone walking through a difficult season?
God often uses believers to share hope with one another.
Walk It Out
Consider these questions:
Why does Peter describe hope as “living”?
How did Paul maintain joy while imprisoned?
What does it mean to be content in every circumstance?
How does focusing on Jesus strengthen faith?
Who has encouraged you during difficult seasons?
Possible Responses
You may recognize ways God has sustained you through hardship.
You may identify Scriptures that strengthen your faith.
You may feel called to encourage someone who needs hope today.
Living the Message
Everyone experiences difficult seasons.
Grief.
Illness.
Disappointment.
Loneliness.
Uncertainty.
Loss.
Yet followers of Christ face these realities differently.
Not because life is easier.
But because hope is greater.
Christian hope reminds us that God’s story is not finished.
God remains faithful.
God remains present.
God remains at work.
Hope That Endures
The New Testament teaches that hope is not merely about surviving difficult seasons.
Hope enables believers to live faithfully through them.
Because of Jesus Christ, no hardship has the final word.
No storm lasts forever.
No trial is beyond God’s reach.
The same Lord who sustained the early Church continues to strengthen believers today.
Our hope remains secure because Christ remains faithful.
