Season 5: Living the Faith
Introduction
The Christian life was never meant to be lived alone.
From the beginning, God called believers into a community of faith. The early Church gathered for worship, prayer, fellowship, learning, service, and encouragement. As churches grew, believers learned an important truth:
Every person has a role to play.
The Church is not simply a building or an organization.
The Church is the people of God working together through the power of the Holy Spirit.
In Romans 12 and 1 Corinthians 12, Paul teaches that every believer has unique gifts, abilities, and opportunities for service. No one person can do everything, but everyone can do something.
When believers serve together, the Church becomes stronger and God’s mission moves forward.
Scripture References
Romans 12:4–5 (NASB)
“For just as we have many parts in one body and all the body’s parts do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually parts of one another.”
1 Corinthians 12:27 (NASB)
“Now you are Christ’s body, and individually parts of it.”
Historical Background
The churches of the New Testament included people from many backgrounds, cultures, occupations, and levels of spiritual maturity.
Some taught.
Some served.
Some encouraged.
Some led.
Some gave generously.
Some cared for practical needs.
Paul wanted believers to understand that these differences were not problems.
They were gifts from God.
The Church flourishes when people use their gifts together for God’s glory.
GROW Framework
Grounded in Scripture
One Body, Many Parts
(1 Corinthians 12:12–20)
Paul compares the Church to a human body.
A body has many parts, each with a different purpose.
Eyes see.
Hands serve.
Feet move.
Ears hear.
Every part matters.
In the same way, every believer contributes something important to the life of the Church.
No gift is insignificant.
No person is unnecessary.
God has designed His Church to work together.
Different Gifts, Same Lord
(Romans 12:3–8)
Paul describes several spiritual gifts, including:
Teaching
Serving
Encouraging
Giving
Leadership
Mercy
These gifts are not given for personal recognition.
They are given to help others and strengthen the Church.
God equips believers for ministry in different ways.
Serving with Humility
(Romans 12:3)
Paul encourages believers not to think too highly of themselves.
Christian service is rooted in humility.
Every gift comes from God.
Every opportunity to serve is a privilege.
Healthy churches thrive when people focus on serving rather than receiving recognition.
Caring for One Another
(1 Corinthians 12:21–27)
Paul teaches that believers belong to one another.
When one member suffers, others care.
When one member rejoices, others celebrate.
The Church is a family.
God calls believers to encourage, support, and strengthen one another through every season of life.
Reasons We Believe
Every Believer Has a Purpose
God has given every Christian gifts, talents, and opportunities for service.
Everyone has a role in God’s kingdom.
The Church Is Stronger Together
Believers accomplish more when they work together than when they work alone.
Christian community reflects God’s design.
Service Is an Act of Worship
Serving others is one way believers honor God and demonstrate His love.
Ministry happens both inside and outside the church walls.
Unity Reflects Christ
The Church glorifies God when believers work together in love, humility, and mutual support.
Obedience in Action
Living as the Church challenges believers to ask:
What gifts has God given me?
How am I using those gifts to serve others?
Where can I become more involved in ministry?
How can I encourage someone else’s gifts?
Am I helping strengthen the Church?
God calls every believer to participate in His work.
Walk It Out
Consider these questions:
Why do you think Paul compared the Church to a body?
What gifts do you see in your own life?
How have others used their gifts to encourage you?
Why is unity important in the Church?
How can you use your gifts to bless others?
Possible Responses
You may discover new ways God has equipped you for ministry.
You may recognize opportunities to serve within the church or community.
You may appreciate the many different gifts God has given to others.
Living the Message
The Church is healthiest when believers work together.
Some teach.
Some sing.
Some pray.
Some serve.
Some encourage.
Some lead.
Some care for those in need.
Every act of service contributes to the mission of the Church.
God uses ordinary people with different gifts to accomplish extraordinary things.
A Place for Everyone
One of the beautiful truths of Scripture is that everyone belongs.
The Church needs teachers and greeters.
Musicians and volunteers.
Prayer warriors and caregivers.
Leaders and servants.
Young and old.
Every believer matters.
Every gift matters.
Every act of faithfulness matters.
Together, we become the body of Christ in the world.
