Sunlight streams across a church sanctuary and cross, symbolizing hope, trust, and God’s presence overcoming fear.

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear?” — Psalm 27:1

Step 2: Choose Trust →

Psalm 27: The Lord Is My Light – Whom Shall I Fear?

Respond: Choosing Trust Over Fear

Step 2: Respond
We choose trust over fear.

After we find shelter in God, we are invited to respond.

Fear may still come.
Uncertainty may still linger.
But we are not left without direction.

We are given a choice:

Will we live in fear… or will we respond in trust?

Anchor Scripture

“The Lord is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the defense of my life;
Whom shall I dread?”

— Psalm 27:1 (NASB)

What This Teaches Us

Truth — What is true?
God is our light, our salvation, and our defense.

Why — Why does this matter?
Because fear loses its power when we remember who God is.

How — How do we respond?
We choose to trust—even when feelings haven’t caught up yet.

When Fear Shows Up

Psalm 27:1 does not say fear will never come.
It shows us how to answer it.

When fear whispers: “What if?”
Faith responds: “God is with me.”

When fear says: “You’re not strong enough.”
Faith answers: “God is my strength.”

Reflect and Respond

What fear am I carrying right now?
Possible answers: uncertainty, health concerns, family situations, change, loss.

What truth do I need to speak over that fear?
Possible answer: “The Lord is my light, my salvation, my defense.”

What is one step of trust I can take today?
Possible answers:

  • Pray before reacting
  • Speak Scripture out loud
  • Take the next faithful step
  • Ask for support
  • Choose worship over worry

Walk It Out

This week, practice a new response.

When fear rises, pause and say:

“The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?”

Let that become your habit of trust.

Worship Reflection

Fear does not have the final word.

As you reflect on Psalm 27:1, take a few moments to worship, pray, and remember that the Lord is our light, salvation, and strength in every season.
