Giving What Others Never Saw
During His final week in Jerusalem, Jesus spent much of His time teaching in and around the Temple.
Crowds came and went.
Religious leaders debated.
Pilgrims arrived for Passover.
In the middle of all this activity, Jesus noticed someone most people ignored.
She was not wealthy.
She held no position of influence.
She was not a religious leader.
She did not make a public speech.
She simply gave a small offering.
Yet Jesus stopped and called attention to her.
What seemed insignificant to everyone else became a powerful lesson about faith, sacrifice, and the condition of the heart.
The widow’s offering reminds believers that God measures differently than the world does.

The Story
Jesus sat near the Temple treasury and watched people placing offerings into collection boxes.
Many wealthy individuals contributed large amounts.
Their gifts were noticeable.
Others could easily see what they gave.
Then a poor widow approached.
She placed two small copper coins into the offering.
The amount was extremely small.
Most people would not have noticed.
Most people would not have considered it important.
Jesus, however, saw something entirely different.
Calling His disciples to Him, He said:
“This poor widow put in more than all the contributors to the treasury.”
The statement surprised them.
How could two tiny coins be more than large gifts?
Jesus explained that others gave from their abundance.
The widow gave out of her poverty.
She gave all she had.
Her offering reflected complete trust in God.

The coins were called lepta, among the smallest coins in circulation.
Their monetary value was extremely low.
To many observers, the gift appeared insignificant.
