Season 2: The Promise
2.3 — Isaac: The Child of Promise

God Keeps His Promises
After years of waiting, Abraham and Sarah welcomed Isaac, the son God had promised.
2.3 — Isaac: The Child of Promise
Scripture
Genesis 18:1–15; Genesis 21:1–7
God had promised Abraham and Sarah a son, but year after year the promise seemed impossible. Abraham and Sarah grew old. The waiting became long. Doubts arose. Yet God had not forgotten His covenant.
At the appointed time, God fulfilled His promise. Sarah gave birth to Isaac, whose name means “he laughs.” What once seemed impossible became a testimony to God’s faithfulness.
Isaac’s birth reminds us that God’s timing is often different from our timing, but His promises never fail.
GROW Framework
Grounded in Scripture
When God announced that Sarah would have a son, she laughed because the promise seemed impossible.
“Is anything too difficult for the Lord?” (Genesis 18:14 NASB)
Years had passed since God first called Abraham. Yet God’s promise remained certain.
Genesis 21 records the fulfillment:
“Then the Lord took note of Sarah as He had said, and the Lord did for Sarah as He had promised.” (Genesis 21:1 NASB)
God did exactly what He said He would do.
Isaac’s birth was not merely a family celebration. It was evidence that God’s covenant was moving forward.
Reasons We Believe
Isaac’s story teaches us:
God is faithful even when we must wait.
God’s promises do not depend on human ability.
Nothing is impossible for God.
God works according to His perfect timing.
Many people in Scripture experienced seasons of waiting. Abraham and Sarah learned that faith grows when we continue trusting God between the promise and the fulfillment.
Obedience in Action
Waiting can be difficult.
We often want immediate answers.
We want clear timelines.
We want God to act according to our schedule.
Yet faith sometimes means trusting God during the waiting season.
Like Abraham and Sarah, we can:
Continue praying.
Continue trusting.
Continue obeying.
Continue believing God’s promises.
Even when we do not see immediate results.
Walk It Out
Consider these questions:
What am I waiting on God to do?
How can I trust God’s timing more fully?
Where have I already seen God’s faithfulness in my life?
How can I encourage someone else who is waiting?
God’s delays are not God’s absence. He remains faithful even when the answer takes time.
Key Truth
God always keeps His promises, even when fulfillment takes longer than expected.
Connecting to Jesus
Isaac was the promised son through whom God’s covenant would continue.
His birth points forward to an even greater promised Son—Jesus Christ.
Just as God fulfilled His promise to Abraham and Sarah, He fulfilled His promise to send a Savior for the world.
Throughout Scripture, God’s promises move steadily toward Jesus.
