The Promise: Season 2

2.1 — God Calls Abram

Season 2: The Promise

Abram stands at the beginning of a life-changing journey. Looking toward an unknown horizon, he responds to God's call with faith and obedience. Though he cannot see the entire path ahead, he trusts God's promises and follows His leading. This moment marks the beginning of God's covenant relationship with Abraham and the unfolding story of redemption that ultimately leads to Jesus Christ.

A Journey Begins with Faith
God called Abram to leave the familiar and trust Him with the future.

2.1 — God Calls Abram

Scripture

Genesis 12:1–9

After the events of Babel, people scattered across the earth and nations were formed. Yet God had not forgotten His plan to bless the world.

In Genesis 12, God calls a man named Abram (later called Abraham) to leave his home, trust God’s leading, and begin a journey of faith. Through Abram and his descendants, God promises to bring blessing to all nations.

This moment marks a major turning point in the story of Scripture. God’s covenant people begin with one faithful response to God’s call.

GROW Framework

Grounded in Scripture

Genesis 12:1–3 records God’s call:

“Go from your country and from your relatives and from your father’s house, to the land which I will show you; and I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you…” (NASB)

God’s instructions required Abram to leave behind everything familiar.

God promised:

  • A land
  • A great nation
  • A great name
  • Blessing
  • Protection
  • A future through which all nations would be blessed

Abram did not know where he was going.

He simply trusted God enough to follow.

Reasons We Believe

God often works through ordinary people who trust Him.

Abram was not a king, warrior, or famous leader. He was simply a man who responded when God called.

This story teaches us:

  • Faith often begins before we have all the answers.
  • God sees a larger plan than we can see.
  • God’s promises are trustworthy.
  • God uses faithful people to bless others.

Abram’s journey becomes the foundation of God’s covenant people and ultimately points toward Jesus Christ.

Through Abraham’s family line, God’s promise of blessing reaches the entire world.

Obedience in Action

Abram’s example reminds us that faith involves action.

Sometimes God calls us to:

  • Take a step before we know the outcome.
  • Trust His guidance.
  • Leave comfortable places.
  • Follow Him into new opportunities.
  • Believe His promises during uncertain seasons.

Faith is more than believing God exists.

Faith is trusting Him enough to follow.

Walk It Out

Ask yourself:

Where might God be calling me to trust Him more deeply?

What familiar comfort am I reluctant to leave behind?

How can I take one faithful step this week?

Like Abram, we may not see the entire path ahead, but we can trust the One who leads us.

Key Truth

God calls His people to walk by faith, trusting His promises even when they cannot see the whole journey.
