Samuel Hears God’s Voice
As a young boy serving in the Tabernacle, Samuel heard God call his name. His willingness to listen and respond became the beginning of a lifetime of faithful service and leadership.
5.5 Samuel Hears God’s Voice
Samuel’s story begins with a simple but powerful truth:
God still speaks.
As a young boy serving in the Tabernacle, Samuel was not expecting a life-changing encounter with God. Yet one night, God called his name and began a relationship that would shape the future of Israel.
Samuel would grow to become a prophet, judge, and spiritual leader. He would guide God’s people during a critical period of transition and help prepare the way for Israel’s kings.
His story reminds us that God can call people of any age and that listening to God is an important part of a faithful life.

The Story
Samuel’s story begins with his mother, Hannah.
For many years Hannah prayed for a child.
She promised that if God blessed her with a son, she would dedicate him to the Lord’s service.
God answered her prayer.
When Samuel was old enough, Hannah brought him to serve at the Tabernacle under the care of Eli the priest.
Samuel grew up in a place of worship and service.
One night, while Samuel was sleeping, he heard a voice call:
“Samuel!” (1 Samuel 3:4 NASB)
Thinking Eli had called him, Samuel ran to him.
But Eli had not called.
This happened three times.
Finally, Eli realized that God was speaking to Samuel.
He instructed the boy to respond:
“Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening.” (1 Samuel 3:9 NASB)
When God called again, Samuel listened.
God gave him a message and began revealing His plans to him.
As Samuel grew, he became a respected prophet throughout Israel.
The Bible says:
“The Lord was with him and let none of his words fail.” (1 Samuel 3:19 NASB)
Samuel faithfully served God and helped lead His people for many years.
Understanding the Story
God Speaks
One of the most important lessons in Samuel’s story is that God desires to communicate with His people.
God spoke to Samuel and guided him throughout his life.
Today, God continues to speak through Scripture, prayer, worship, and the work of the Holy Spirit.
