The Story
After the Passover, Pharaoh finally allowed the Israelites to leave Egypt.
Hundreds of thousands of people began their journey toward freedom.
God guided them with a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.
Soon Pharaoh changed his mind.
He regretted releasing his workforce and assembled his army to pursue the Israelites.
As Pharaoh’s chariots approached, panic spread throughout the camp.
The Israelites cried out in fear.
They complained to Moses:
“Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness?” (Exodus 14:11 NASB)
Moses responded with faith:
“Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the Lord.” (Exodus 14:13 NASB)
God instructed Moses to stretch out his staff over the sea.
During the night, God drove back the waters.
The sea parted.
The Israelites crossed on dry ground.
Walls of water stood on both sides.
When the Egyptian army followed, God caused confusion among them.
As the Israelites reached safety, the waters returned and overwhelmed Pharaoh’s forces.
God had rescued His people.
In response, Moses and the Israelites sang a song of praise celebrating God’s victory and faithfulness.
