The Omnipotence of God
God’s Unlimited Power and Sovereign Authority
God is all-powerful.
Nothing is too difficult for Him. Nothing is beyond His ability. There is no force in heaven or on earth that can limit, weaken, or overcome His power.
The Bible reveals God’s omnipotence in creation, in His mighty acts throughout history, in the miracles of Jesus Christ, in His victory over sin and death, and in His promise to establish His eternal kingdom.
God’s power has no limits. He created the universe, conquered sin and death through Jesus Christ, and continues working according to His perfect will.
What Does Omnipotence Mean?
The word omnipotence comes from two Latin words meaning “all-powerful.”
God’s omnipotence means He possesses unlimited power and absolute authority over all creation.
God can accomplish everything that is consistent with His holy nature and perfect will.
His power is never limited by weakness, time, circumstances, or human ability.
Nothing surprises Him.
Nothing overwhelms Him.
Nothing is impossible for God.
God’s Power in Creation
The universe itself testifies to God’s unlimited power.
He spoke creation into existence.
He placed the stars in the heavens.
He formed the mountains.
He created the oceans.
He gives life to every living creature.
Every sunrise, every season, and every breath reminds us of the incredible power of our Creator.
Creation continually points us to the greatness of God’s omnipotence.
God’s Power in Redemption
God’s greatest display of power is found in His plan of salvation.
Through Jesus Christ:
The sick were healed.
The blind received sight.
Storms were calmed.
Demons were cast out.
The dead were raised.
Most importantly, Jesus conquered sin and death through His resurrection.
The resurrection is the ultimate demonstration that nothing can overcome God’s power.
God’s Power at Work Today
God’s power did not end with the pages of the Bible.
He continues working today.
He answers prayer.
He transforms lives.
He comforts the hurting.
He strengthens the weak.
He gives wisdom.
He provides hope.
Through the Holy Spirit, God continues accomplishing His purposes in the lives of His people and throughout the world.
Does God’s Power Mean He Does Everything We Want?
No.
God’s omnipotence does not mean He grants every human request exactly as we desire.
His power is always exercised according to His perfect wisdom, holiness, love, and will.
Sometimes God demonstrates His power by changing our circumstances.
Other times, He demonstrates His power by giving us strength to endure them.
Because His wisdom is perfect, we can trust both His actions and His timing.
Trusting the All-Powerful God
Knowing that God is all-powerful gives believers great confidence.
No problem is too great for Him.
No prayer is too difficult.
No person is beyond His reach.
No circumstance is outside His control.
Even when we cannot see how God is working, we can trust that His power is accomplishing His perfect purposes.
Living in Light of God’s Omnipotence
Believing that God is all-powerful changes the way we live.
We pray with confidence.
We worship with awe.
We trust Him during uncertainty.
We face challenges with hope.
We serve Him with courage.
Our confidence rests not in our own strength, but in the limitless power of our Heavenly Father.

Heavenly Father, thank You that You are all-powerful and nothing is impossible for You.
