The Love of God

Discovering the Greatest Love the World Has Ever Known

Few truths in Scripture are more comforting and life-changing than the love of God.

From the opening pages of Genesis to the final chapters of Revelation, the Bible reveals a God who loves His creation and desires a relationship with His people. His love is not based on our goodness, achievements, or worthiness. It flows from His perfect character.

God’s love reaches sinners.

It comforts the brokenhearted.

It welcomes the repentant.

It strengthens the weary.

It gives hope to the discouraged.

Most of all, God’s love is fully revealed through Jesus Christ.

The Love of God

What Is God’s Love?

God’s love is His perfect, unchanging commitment to seek the good of His creation and to bring people into a relationship with Himself.

Unlike human love, God’s love is never selfish, temporary, or unreliable.

His love is:

Holy

Faithful

Patient

Merciful

Sacrificial

Compassionate

Forgiving

Steadfast

Everlasting

God does not simply show love.

God is love (1 John 4:8).

Everything He does flows from His perfect and holy character.

God’s Love Throughout Scripture

The story of the Bible is the story of God’s love.

He created humanity in His image.

He pursued Adam and Eve after they sinned.

He established His covenant with Abraham.

He rescued Israel from slavery.

He remained faithful even when His people wandered.

He sent prophets to call people back to Him.

He fulfilled His promises through Jesus Christ.

The Bible continually reveals God’s love reaching toward people who could never save themselves.

God’s Greatest Gift

The greatest demonstration of God’s love is found at the cross.

Jesus willingly gave His life so that sinners could receive forgiveness, reconciliation, and eternal life.

God did not merely say He loves us.

He proved it.

Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, God’s love defeated sin and opened the way for every person to be restored to Him through faith.

God’s Love Is Personal

God’s love is not distant or impersonal.

He knows every person by name.

He hears our prayers.

He understands our struggles.

He walks with us through joy and sorrow.

He invites us to call Him Father through Jesus Christ.

Nothing about our lives escapes His loving attention.

Can Nothing Separate Us from God’s Love?

The Bible gives believers remarkable assurance.

Neither hardship nor suffering…

Neither failure nor success…

Neither life nor death…

Neither the present nor the future…

Nothing in all creation can separate those who belong to Christ from the love of God revealed in Jesus Christ.

Our confidence rests in God’s faithfulness, not our own.

God’s Love and His Holiness

God’s love never ignores sin.

Because God is perfectly holy and just, He deals with sin rather than overlooking it.

At the cross, God’s justice and God’s love meet perfectly.

Jesus bears the penalty of sin so that forgiveness can be freely offered to all who trust Him.

God’s love is not opposed to His holiness.

His love is holy.

Responding to God’s Love

God invites every person to respond to His love.

We respond by:

Trusting Jesus Christ

Receiving His grace

Following His Word

Loving Him with our whole heart

Loving our neighbors

Serving others

Forgiving as we have been forgiven

Growing in faith

The Christian life is our grateful response to God’s amazing love.

Loving Others

Jesus taught that loving God and loving others are the greatest commandments.

Because God first loved us, believers are called to reflect His love in everyday life.

His love changes how we:

Treat our families

Care for neighbors

Serve our communities

Forgive those who hurt us

Welcome strangers

Encourage the discouraged

Share the gospel

God’s love becomes visible through the lives of His people.

A Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me with an everlasting love. Thank You for sending Jesus Christ to save me and bring me into a relationship with You. Help me trust Your love more deeply each day, especially when life is difficult or confusing.
