Discovering Who God Is Through His Character
When we want to know someone, we learn about their character.
The same is true with God.
The Bible reveals not only what God has done but who God is. His character is perfect, unchanging, and completely trustworthy. Every promise He makes, every command He gives, every act of love, every display of justice, and every work of salvation flows from His perfect character.
God’s perfect character is revealed throughout Scripture and most clearly through Jesus Christ, inviting us to know, trust, and follow Him.
What Is the Character of God?
God’s character is the perfect expression of who He is.
Unlike people, God’s character never changes. Human character can grow, weaken, or fail. God’s character is eternal, flawless, and completely dependable.
Everything God does is consistent with His character.
He is always holy.
He is always loving.
He is always truthful.
He is always faithful.
He is always just.
He is always merciful.
He is always good.
Because God never changes, we can confidently build our lives upon Him.
Why God’s Character Matters
Our understanding of God shapes every part of our faith.
If we misunderstand God’s character, we may struggle to trust Him, misunderstand Scripture, or believe things about Him that are not true.

Jesus Reveals the Character of God
The clearest picture of God’s character is found in Jesus Christ.
Jesus demonstrated God’s compassion by healing the sick.
He revealed God’s mercy by forgiving sinners.
He showed God’s holiness through His sinless life.
He displayed God’s justice through His sacrifice on the cross.
He revealed God’s love by laying down His life for the world.
When we study Jesus, we see the Father more clearly.
The Character of God in Everyday Life
Because God’s character never changes, believers can trust Him in every season of life.
When we feel afraid, God is faithful.
When we sin, God is merciful.
When we suffer, God is compassionate.
When life seems uncertain, God remains sovereign.
When we need wisdom, God generously gives it.
When we feel alone, God is always present.
Our confidence rests not in changing circumstances but in the unchanging character of God.

A Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing Your perfect character through Your Word and through Jesus Christ. Help me know You more deeply each day. Teach me to trust Your goodness, rest in Your faithfulness, rejoice in Your love, and walk in obedience to Your truth. Shape my life so that I reflect the character of Christ in my words, attitudes, and actions. In Jesus’ name, amen.
