Understanding Humanity’s Greatest Problem
The Bible teaches that sin is the greatest problem facing humanity.
Sin separates us from God, damages our relationships, distorts His good creation, and brings spiritual death. Every person has sinned and falls short of God’s perfect holiness. Left to ourselves, we cannot overcome sin or restore our relationship with God.
The good news of the gospel is that God did not leave us without hope.
From the very beginning, God promised a Redeemer. Through Jesus Christ, God provides forgiveness, reconciliation, and eternal life for everyone who places their faith in Him.
Sin separates us from God, but His love did not leave us without hope. Through Jesus Christ, God has provided the way to forgiveness, reconciliation, and eternal life.
What Is Sin?
Sin is any thought, attitude, word, or action that falls short of God’s perfect will.
It includes both what we do and what we fail to do.
Sin is more than breaking God’s commandments.
It is living independently of God, choosing our own way instead of trusting and obeying Him.
Because God is perfectly holy, even one sin separates us from Him.
Where Did Sin Begin?
The Bible teaches that God created the world good.
He created Adam and Eve in His image and placed them in the Garden of Eden with everything they needed.
When they chose to disobey God, sin entered the world.
This event, often called The Fall, affected all creation.
Since that time, every person has been born into a world affected by sin and has personally chosen to sin.
How Does Sin Affect Us?
Sin affects every part of life.
It separates us from God.
It damages our relationships with others.
It distorts our thoughts, desires, and choices.
It brings guilt, shame, and spiritual death.
Sin also affects families, communities, and the entire world, contributing to injustice, suffering, conflict, and brokenness.
Can We Save Ourselves?
No.
No amount of good works, religious activity, kindness, or personal effort can remove our sin.
The Bible teaches that salvation is entirely the work of God’s grace.
Only Jesus Christ lived a perfectly sinless life.
Only His death on the cross could pay the penalty for sin.
Only His resurrection provides victory over sin and death.
God’s Answer to Sin
God’s answer to sin is Jesus Christ.
Out of His great love, God sent His Son into the world to save sinners.
Through His death and resurrection:
Our sins can be forgiven.
We can be reconciled to God.
We can receive eternal life.
We can become members of God’s family.
The gospel is the story of God’s victory over sin through Jesus Christ.
Does God Still Love Sinners?
Yes.
God hates sin because it destroys the people He loves.
Yet throughout Scripture, we see God’s desire to rescue, forgive, and restore sinners.
Jesus welcomed those who repented and trusted Him.
His invitation remains the same today.
No one is beyond God’s grace.
Anyone who turns to Christ in faith can receive forgiveness and new life.
Living in Victory Over Sin
Although Christians still struggle with temptation, sin no longer has the final word.
Through the Holy Spirit, believers grow in holiness and become more like Jesus Christ.
God continues His work of transforming His people through His sanctifying grace.
One day, when Christ returns, sin will be defeated forever.
