Declared Righteous Through Faith in Jesus Christ
Justification is one of the foundational truths of the Christian faith.
Because every person has sinned, no one can stand righteous before a perfectly holy God by their own efforts. Yet, through His grace and the saving work of Jesus Christ, God declares believers righteous when they place their faith in Him.
Justification is not based on our goodness, religious activities, or good works.
It is God’s gracious gift, received through faith in Jesus Christ.
Through faith in Jesus Christ, God graciously declares believers righteous—not because of what we have done, but because of what Christ has done for us.
What Is Justification?
Justification is God’s act of declaring a sinner righteous because of Jesus Christ.
It is a legal and relational declaration made by God.
Our sins were placed upon Christ, and His righteousness is credited to those who trust in Him.
God does not overlook sin.
Instead, Jesus paid the penalty for our sin through His death on the cross, satisfying God’s perfect justice while demonstrating His perfect love and mercy.
Why Do We Need Justification?
The Bible teaches that all people have sinned.
Sin separates us from God and leaves us guilty before Him.
No one can earn salvation by living a good life or performing religious duties.
We all need God’s grace.
Without justification, we remain separated from God.
With justification, we are forgiven, accepted, and restored to fellowship with Him.
How Are We Justified?
We are justified by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
Salvation is entirely God’s work.
Jesus lived the sinless life we could never live.
He died the death we deserved.
He rose victorious over sin and death.
When we trust Him, God forgives our sins and declares us righteous because of Christ.
This is the heart of the gospel.
Justification and Good Works
Good works do not earn justification.
Instead, good works are the natural result of a life that has already been changed by God’s grace.
A growing relationship with Christ produces love, obedience, compassion, generosity, and faithful service.
These works do not save us.
They are evidence that God is continuing His work within us.
Justification and Sanctification
Although they are closely connected, justification and sanctification are not the same.
Justification is God’s once-for-all declaration that we are righteous through faith in Christ.
Sanctification is the lifelong process of becoming more like Jesus through the work of the Holy Spirit.
One describes our standing before God.
The other describes our spiritual growth.
Both are gifts of God’s grace.
The Assurance of Justification
Believers do not have to wonder whether they are accepted by God.
Our confidence rests not in our own performance but in Jesus Christ.
Because He has accomplished everything necessary for our salvation, we can live with peace, hope, and assurance.
God remains faithful to His promises.
Those who belong to Christ can rejoice in the confidence of His saving grace.
Living as Those Who Have Been Justified
Justification changes our lives.
Knowing we have been forgiven and accepted by God fills us with gratitude.
It leads us to worship.
It motivates us to love others.
It encourages us to pursue holiness.
It gives us confidence to share the good news of Jesus Christ with the world.
Those who have been justified are called to live as grateful followers of Christ, reflecting His love and truth in every area of life.
