“The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom should I fear?” — Psalm 27:1
The Lord Is My Light and My Salvation
Learning to worship God with courage, trust, and hope
Psalm 27 begins with a powerful confession of faith: “The LORD is my light and my salvation.” These words remind us that worship is not only something we do when life feels easy. Worship is also how we turn toward God when we feel afraid, uncertain, weary, or overwhelmed.
When David says, “The LORD is my light,” he is declaring that God helps him see. God gives direction, truth, hope, and clarity. When life feels dark, God is not distant. He shines His light into our confusion, fear, and discouragement.
When David says, “The LORD is my salvation,” he is declaring that God is his rescuer and defender. His confidence does not come from his own strength, his circumstances, or the approval of others. His confidence comes from the Lord.
This verse teaches us that faith does not mean we never face fear. Faith means we know where to turn when fear comes.
