Walk to Emmaus and My Faith Journey

Growing Deeper in Faith Through Christian Community

By Susie Travis

Faith grows in many ways.

Sometimes growth happens quietly through years of worship, prayer, and service. Sometimes God uses a specific experience to renew our hearts, strengthen our faith, and remind us that we are not walking alone.

One important part of my spiritual journey came through Walk to Emmaus in 2014.

That experience became a meaningful season of encouragement, renewal, reflection, and spiritual growth in my life.

When Faith Becomes More Personal

Like many Christians, I had spent years attending church, serving others, learning Scripture, and trying to live faithfully.

But Walk to Emmaus reminded me that faith is more than simply attending church services or completing responsibilities.

Faith is personal.

It is about:

  • walking daily with Christ
  • growing spiritually
  • listening for God’s direction
  • encouraging others
  • living faithfully in everyday life
  • continuing to grow through every season

The experience encouraged me to slow down spiritually, reflect more deeply, and focus intentionally on my relationship with Christ.

The Gift of Christian Community

One of the most meaningful parts of the Emmaus experience was Christian community.

Encouragement matters.

Prayer matters.

Friendships rooted in faith matter.

There is something powerful about being surrounded by people who genuinely want to grow closer to Christ together and encourage one another along the journey.

The experience reminded me that Christianity was never meant to be lived alone.

God often strengthens us through:

  • prayer
  • worship
  • conversation
  • encouragement
  • fellowship
  • acts of kindness
  • faithful friendships

Christian community became a reminder that God works through people as well as circumstances.

Spiritual Growth Is a Lifelong Journey

One important lesson I learned is that spiritual growth never truly stops.

There is always more to learn.
More trust to develop.
More grace to receive.
More opportunities to serve.

Faith continues growing through:

  • worship
  • Scripture
  • prayer
  • study
  • fellowship
  • service
  • difficult seasons
  • everyday obedience

Over time, I realized that spiritual maturity is not about perfection.

It is about continuing to walk faithfully with Christ one step at a time.

What This Experience Taught Me

This season of spiritual renewal taught me:

  • the value of Christian community
  • the importance of encouragement and prayer
  • the need for intentional spiritual growth
  • the importance of serving others
  • that discipleship is a lifelong journey

It also reminded me that God continues shaping our lives in every season.

No matter our age or circumstances, there is always room to grow deeper in faith.

A Word for Others

If you feel spiritually tired, discouraged, disconnected, or unsure where to begin growing again, you are not alone.

Sometimes God renews our hearts through:

  • worship
  • retreats
  • Christian friendships
  • Bible study
  • conversations
  • prayer
  • encouragement from others

Growth often happens slowly.

But every step toward Christ matters.

God continues calling us to grow, serve, trust, and walk faithfully with Him each day.

Grounded in Scripture (Truth)

“And let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not abandoning our own meeting together… but encouraging one another.”
— Hebrews 10:24–25 (NASB)
