God remains faithful through every season — in waiting, hardship, healing, and new beginnings.
Faith is often shaped slowly — through family, prayer, waiting, hardship, healing, and learning to trust God one step at a time.
In this testimony, Ginger Jones reflects on a lifetime of seeing God’s faithfulness through childhood faith, teaching, motherhood, recovery, painful seasons, and new beginnings.
God Has Been Faithful Through Every Season
A Testimony by Ginger Jones
God has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
My parents were from Wylam and met at Martin Memorial United Methodist Church in the young adult class. Both sets of grandparents also lived in Wylam. My sister and I were raised in a Christian home where church was an important part of life. We attended Sunday morning and Sunday night services, and faith was woven into our everyday lives.
Camp Sumatanga also became a very important part of my relationship with God. I especially remember morning watch, Scripture study, and evening vespers. When I made my profession of faith at nine years old, I understood what I was doing. It was meaningful to me — not just words I repeated.
I attended Ensley High School and later Auburn University. During my junior year, Melvin and I got married. After graduating from Auburn, I accepted a teaching position at Parker High School in Birmingham during the time of desegregation. Those years were not always easy, but over time the students realized I cared about them and planned to stay. Looking back, I can clearly see that God was with me through that season.
After four years of teaching, it was time for us to start a family. But month after month, it did not happen. We visited fertility specialists and prayed constantly for a child, but I still was not pregnant.
Finally, my prayer changed.
Instead of asking only for a child, I prayed:
“God, if I am not going to have children, then help me live with that disappointment. It is up to You.”
For the first time, I fully surrendered the situation to God. Soon afterward, I became pregnant.
That experience taught me an important lesson about humility, surrender, and prayer.
Years later, after raising three children and walking through many struggles, I often looked back on that prayer and smiled.
One of my favorite Scriptures is Micah 6:8:
“He has told you, mortal one, what is good;
And what does the Lord require of you
Except to do justice, to love kindness,
And to walk humbly with your God?” (NASB)
Another Scripture that has encouraged me through difficult seasons is Psalm 27:14, reminding me to wait on the Lord with courage and faith.
After spending fifteen years at home raising children, teaching Sunday School, leading youth groups, and supporting school activities, I felt it was time to return to teaching. I applied to different school systems, prayed for guidance, and waited for God to open the right door.
Proverbs 3:5 became especially meaningful during that season as I learned to trust the Lord rather than lean on my own understanding.
Eventually, God opened the door for me to teach at Oak Grove High School. That opportunity became a tremendous blessing in my life. I loved the students, faculty, and support workers. I loved biology, and I loved teaching. Whenever I could naturally connect a lesson to Christian values or encouragement, I tried to do so. Oak Grove felt like a large family.
Life continued with many blessings and challenges, but one of the hardest seasons came in 2019.
That year, I was involved in a terrible car accident. Recovery was slow, painful, and emotionally exhausting. During that difficult season, I spent many nights praying, reading my Bible, and leaning on the prayers and encouragement of my church family. Without those prayers, I do not know how I would have made it through.
Hebrews 4:16 became a great comfort to me during that time, reminding me that God gives grace and help in our time of need.
That same year, I also walked through painful changes within my family life. After much prayer and soul-searching, I realized I needed to make a major change. For two months, I prayed constantly for wisdom, courage, and direction.
Then, little by little, God began opening doors.
A house became available. Financial details worked out. Every step seemed to fall into place at just the right time. On November 16, 2019, I moved into a home of my own.
I truly believe prayer carried me through that season.
Philippians 4:13 reminded me daily that I could do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Over the years, I have learned that God is love. We are important to Him, and His love reaches far beyond what we can fully understand.
Psalm 139 and Colossians 1 remind me that every person is created with value and held securely in God’s care.
Through every season — childhood faith, teaching, motherhood, recovery, hardship, and new beginnings — God has remained faithful.
If tomorrow comes, I will continue trying to live by this truth:
The best way to tell others about Jesus is to begin with love.
