Faith During Hard Seasons

Learning to Keep Trusting God Through Everyday Struggles

By Susie Travis

Not every difficult season comes from one major event.

Sometimes hardship builds slowly through stress, uncertainty, responsibilities, disappointment, and the quiet weight of everyday life.

Over the years, I have walked through seasons of financial struggles, emotional exhaustion, uncertainty, and difficult moments within marriage and family life.

These were not always struggles people could easily see from the outside.

Many people carry burdens quietly.

I did too.

Learning to Trust God Daily

One of the hardest parts of difficult seasons is that they often do not end quickly.

You still wake up each day carrying responsibilities.
You still try to care for others.
You still keep going even when emotionally tired.

There were times when I worried about the future and wondered how situations would work out.

Sometimes faith did not feel strong or confident.

Sometimes faith simply meant continuing to pray, continuing to trust, and continuing to take the next step forward.

Over time, I learned that faith is not about pretending everything is easy.

Faith is learning to walk honestly with God through hard seasons.

God’s Strength in Weak Moments

There were moments when I felt overwhelmed, discouraged, or weary.

But again and again, God provided strength through:

  • prayer
  • Scripture
  • worship
  • church family
  • friendships
  • quiet reminders of His presence

Often, God did not remove the difficulty immediately.

Instead, He gave enough strength for the next day.

Then the next.

Then the next.

Looking back, I can see that God was carrying me even when I felt weak.

What Hard Seasons Taught Me

These seasons taught me:

  • perseverance
  • deeper dependence on God
  • compassion for others carrying hidden burdens
  • the importance of prayer and Christian community
  • that faith can continue growing even during struggle

I also learned that many people are fighting battles others cannot see.

That realization changed how I view others and how I respond with greater compassion and patience.

God Still Works in Difficult Seasons

Sometimes we assume spiritual growth only happens during peaceful or joyful times.

But many of the deepest lessons of faith are learned during struggle.

Hard seasons taught me to trust God more deeply, pray more honestly, and depend less on my own strength.

They reminded me that God remains faithful even when life feels uncertain.

A Word for Others

If you are carrying burdens today, you are not alone.

God sees the struggles others may never notice.

He sees the exhaustion.
He sees the worry.
He sees the quiet prayers.
He sees the perseverance.

And even when answers come slowly, God continues walking beside us.

Faith is not the absence of hardship.

Faith is continuing to trust God in the middle of it.
