Praying for Someone Who Is Hurting
Bringing Compassion, Comfort, and Hope Before God
Everyone experiences seasons of pain.
Some people carry visible burdens such as illness, grief, financial hardship, or family struggles. Others carry hurts that cannot easily be seen—loneliness, disappointment, anxiety, broken relationships, or emotional wounds.
When someone we love is hurting, we may feel powerless to fix the situation.
But we are never powerless to pray.
Prayer invites God’s presence into another person’s life. It expresses our love, places their burdens before the Lord, and reminds us that God sees every tear, understands every heartache, and cares deeply for those who are suffering.

Pray That They Will Experience God’s Presence
One of the greatest gifts you can pray for is that the person will know God is near.
Ask Him to surround them with His peace.
Remind them through Your Spirit that they are not forgotten.
Strengthen them with the assurance that You walk beside them every step of the journey.
God is close to the brokenhearted and never abandons His children.
Pray for Comfort
Ask God to bring comfort that only He can provide.
Comfort when tears come.
Comfort during sleepless nights.
Comfort when fear or uncertainty becomes overwhelming.
Pray that His peace will guard their heart and mind as they place their trust in Him.
Pray for Wisdom
Many people who are hurting face difficult decisions.
Pray that God will give them wisdom, clarity, and discernment.
Ask Him to guide doctors, counselors, family members, pastors, and others who are helping them.
Pray that every decision will honor Him and bring about His best purposes.
Pray for Strength
Pain often leaves people physically, emotionally, and spiritually exhausted.
Ask God to renew their strength day by day.
Pray that they will have the endurance to keep trusting Him, even when answers seem slow to come.
His grace is sufficient for every moment.
Pray for Hope
Difficult circumstances can make the future seem uncertain.
Pray that God will fill them with hope rooted in His promises rather than in changing circumstances.
Remind them that Christ is faithful, and His love never fails.
Hope does not remove suffering, but it gives us confidence that God is still at work.
Be Willing to Be Part of the Answer
Sometimes God answers our prayers by sending His people.
As you pray, ask God how He might use you.
Could you make a phone call?
Prepare a meal?
Send a card?
Visit?
Listen?
Offer practical help?
Prayer often leads us to compassionate action.
Keep Praying
Do not stop praying simply because the crisis has passed.
Healing often takes time.
Continue remembering them before the Lord.
Faithful prayer over weeks and months can become one of the greatest expressions of Christian love.
