Praying for Missionaries
Supporting Those Who Share the Gospel Around the World
From the earliest days of the Church, God has called His people to take the good news of Jesus Christ to every nation.
Some believers are called to serve across the street.
Others are called to serve across the world.
Missionaries faithfully proclaim the gospel, plant churches, disciple new believers, provide humanitarian care, translate Scripture, train leaders, and serve communities in the name of Christ. While their locations and ministries may differ, they all depend upon God’s guidance, strength, and provision.
One of the greatest ways every Christian can participate in God’s mission is through faithful prayer.
Pray for Boldness
Sharing the gospel requires courage.
Many missionaries serve where Christianity is unfamiliar, misunderstood, or openly opposed.
Pray that God will give them boldness to proclaim His truth with love, wisdom, humility, and grace.
Ask Him to prepare hearts to receive the message of Jesus Christ.
Pray for Open Doors
Only God can open hearts.
Pray that He will create opportunities for meaningful conversations, new relationships, and the spread of the gospel.
Ask God to remove obstacles and provide opportunities for missionaries to share Christ in ways that honor Him.
Pray for Protection
Many missionaries serve in difficult circumstances.
Some face persecution, political instability, natural disasters, disease, isolation, or spiritual opposition.
Pray that God will protect them physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
Ask Him to surround them with His peace and strengthen them for every challenge they encounter.
Pray for Their Families
Missionary families often experience unique joys and challenges.
Pray for spouses, children, and extended family members.
Ask God to strengthen their marriages, encourage their children, provide meaningful friendships, and sustain them during times of separation from loved ones.
May their homes reflect the love and peace of Christ.
Pray for Wisdom
Every culture is different.
Missionaries often navigate unfamiliar languages, customs, traditions, and ways of life.
Pray that God will give them wisdom, cultural understanding, humility, and discernment as they build relationships and share the gospel.
May they demonstrate Christ’s love with both truth and compassion.
Pray for Provision
Mission work depends upon God’s faithful provision.
Pray that missionaries will have the financial support, resources, transportation, housing, healthcare, and ministry tools they need.
Ask God to raise up churches and individuals who will faithfully support His work around the world.
Pray for Spiritual Encouragement
Missionary service can be joyful, but it can also be lonely.
Pray that God will encourage missionaries through His Word, the Holy Spirit, fellow believers, and answered prayers.
May they remain faithful even when they cannot immediately see the results of their work.
God is always at work, even when growth is slow.
Join God’s Mission
Not every believer is called to become a missionary.
Every believer is called to participate in God’s mission.
We can pray.
We can give.
We can encourage.
We can welcome missionaries into our churches.
We can share the gospel in our own communities.
As God’s people faithfully serve together, the good news of Jesus Christ continues to reach every nation.
