Praying Before Serving
Preparing Your Heart Before You Serve Others
Every act of Christian service begins long before we arrive at a ministry opportunity.
It begins in prayer.
Whether you are greeting visitors, teaching a Sunday school class, singing in the choir, preparing meals, serving on a mission team, visiting someone who is homebound, or helping a neighbor in need, prayer prepares your heart to serve with humility, compassion, and dependence upon God.
Service is not simply about completing a task.
It is about joining God in His work.
When we pray before serving, we acknowledge that we cannot accomplish lasting spiritual work through our own strength. We ask God to guide our words, shape our attitudes, and use us as instruments of His love.
Pray for a Humble Heart
Jesus came “not to be served, but to serve.”
Ask God to help you follow His example.
Pray that your service will reflect humility rather than pride, love rather than recognition, and faithfulness rather than personal achievement.
The goal is not to receive praise.
The goal is to glorify Christ.
Pray for the People You Will Serve
Before you arrive, pray for those you will meet.
Ask God to prepare their hearts.
Comfort those who are hurting.
Encourage those who are discouraged.
Strengthen those who are weary.
Open doors for meaningful conversations.
Every person you meet is deeply loved by God.
Pray for Wisdom
Every opportunity to serve is different.
Ask God to give you wisdom in your conversations, decisions, and actions.
Pray for sensitivity to the needs around you.
Sometimes the greatest ministry is listening.
Sometimes it is offering practical help.
Sometimes it is simply being present.
The Holy Spirit will guide you as you depend upon Him.
Pray for Strength
Serving can be physically, emotionally, and spiritually demanding.
Ask God to renew your strength.
Help you remain patient.
Fill you with joy.
Give you endurance.
His grace is sufficient for every assignment He gives.
Pray to Be a Faithful Witness
Our actions often speak before our words.
Ask God to help your kindness, integrity, compassion, and joy reflect the character of Jesus Christ.
If opportunities arise, pray for the courage to share the hope you have in Him with gentleness and respect.
Trust God with the Results
Faithful service is our responsibility.
The results belong to God.
Pray faithfully.
Serve joyfully.
Trust Him to accomplish His purposes through your obedience.
Sometimes you may never see the impact your service has made.
God does.
