Bible Study

Growing Through God’s Word
Bible study is one of the most important spiritual disciplines in the Christian life. Through Scripture, God reveals His character, His promises, His will, and His plan of salvation. The Bible is more than a collection of ancient writings—it is God’s living Word, given to guide, teach, encourage, correct, and transform His people.
Jesus regularly quoted Scripture, taught from Scripture, and fulfilled Scripture. The early church devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and believers throughout history have grown in faith through regular study of God’s Word. Bible study helps us move beyond simply reading familiar verses and allows us to understand the larger story of God and how it applies to our daily lives.
Studying the Bible strengthens our relationship with God. As we learn who He is, we grow in trust, wisdom, obedience, and spiritual maturity. God’s Word provides direction during times of uncertainty, comfort during suffering, and truth in a world filled with competing voices.
Bible study can take many forms. Some believers study a single book of the Bible verse by verse. Others follow themes such as prayer, grace, faith, discipleship, or forgiveness. Some explore the historical background of biblical events, while others focus on applying Scripture to everyday life. Whether studying alone or with others, the goal is not merely to gain information but to be transformed by God’s truth.
One helpful approach is to ask simple questions as you read:
What does this passage teach about God?
What does this passage teach about people?
What is happening in the context of this story or teaching?
Is there a command to obey, a promise to trust, or an example to follow?
How does this passage point to Jesus?
How should this truth shape my life today?
Bible study is most effective when combined with prayer. We ask the Holy Spirit to help us understand God’s Word and apply it faithfully. As we study consistently, Scripture begins to shape our thoughts, attitudes, decisions, and actions.
The goal of Bible study is not simply knowledge but discipleship. We study so that we may know Christ more deeply, love Him more fully, and follow Him more faithfully.
