Questions New Christians Ask

Answers for Those Beginning Their Journey with Christ

Beginning a relationship with Jesus is exciting, encouraging, and sometimes overwhelming. Many new believers have questions about faith, the Bible, prayer, church, and what it means to follow Christ every day.

The good news is that questions are a normal part of spiritual growth.

The disciples asked questions.

New believers in the early church asked questions.

Christians throughout history have asked questions as they learned to follow Jesus.

This page provides simple answers to some of the most common questions new Christians ask as they begin their journey of faith.

Every Journey Begins With Questions

I Accepted Christ. What Happens Next?

When you place your faith in Jesus Christ, God forgives your sins and welcomes you into His family.

Your relationship with God begins immediately.

The Bible describes this as being born again, becoming a new creation, and receiving eternal life.

Following Jesus is not simply a one-time decision.

It is the beginning of a lifelong journey of growth, learning, worship, and service.

How Do I Pray?

Prayer is simply talking with God.

You do not need special words or perfect language.

God invites His children to come to Him honestly and regularly.

You can thank Him, praise Him, confess sins, ask for guidance, pray for others, and share the concerns of your heart.

Jesus taught His followers to pray and promises that God hears His people.

Where Should I Start Reading the Bible?

Many new Christians find it helpful to begin with the Gospel of John.

John introduces readers to Jesus and explains who He is and why He came.

After John, consider reading Mark, Luke, Acts, and selected Psalms.

Reading a small portion each day often helps build a consistent habit.

Why Is Church Important?

God designed Christians to grow together.

Church provides worship, teaching, encouragement, fellowship, prayer, and opportunities to serve.

Following Jesus was never intended to be a solitary journey.

Being part of a church family helps believers grow stronger in faith and remain connected to other followers of Christ.

What Is Baptism?

Baptism is an outward sign of an inward spiritual reality.

It publicly identifies a believer with Jesus Christ and His church.

Baptism does not save us.

Salvation comes through God’s grace received by faith.

However, baptism is an important step of obedience and discipleship.

What Is Holy Communion?

Holy Communion reminds believers of Jesus’ death and resurrection.

Through the bread and cup, Christians remember Christ’s sacrifice and celebrate God’s grace.

Communion also reminds us that we belong to Christ and to one another as members of His church.

Will I Still Struggle With Sin?

Yes.

Christians continue to face temptation and spiritual struggles.

The difference is that God is now at work within believers through the Holy Spirit.

Spiritual growth is a process.

As we follow Jesus, God gradually transforms our hearts, minds, attitudes, and actions.

Who Is the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit is God’s presence living within believers.

The Holy Spirit teaches, guides, comforts, convicts, strengthens, and helps Christians grow.

God never expects believers to follow Christ through their own strength.

The Holy Spirit empowers us to live faithfully.

What If I Have Doubts?

Questions and doubts are common experiences in the Christian life.

Having questions does not mean your faith has failed.

Bring your questions to God.

Study Scripture.

Talk with mature Christians.

Continue learning and growing.

God often uses honest questions to deepen faith.

How Can I Grow Spiritually?

Spiritual growth happens as believers spend time with God and practice habits that strengthen faith.

Regular worship, prayer, Bible reading, fellowship, service, generosity, and obedience help Christians mature in their walk with Christ.

Growth often happens gradually, one step at a time.

Do I Have to Be Perfect?

No.

Christians are not saved by perfection.

We are saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

God loves us, forgives us, and continues to shape us throughout our lives.

The goal is not perfection.

The goal is faithfulness and continued growth in Christ.

Keep Taking the Next Step

Every believer begins somewhere.

You do not need to know everything immediately.

Continue learning.

Continue worshiping.

Continue praying.

Continue growing.

Jesus walks with His followers every step of the journey.

As you trust Him, God will continue the good work He has begun in your life.
