Raising Children in Faith
Helping Children Know, Love, and Follow Jesus Christ
One of the greatest privileges God gives parents is the opportunity to help their children know Him.
Children are constantly learning—from what they see, what they hear, and how they are loved. Parents, grandparents, and other caring adults have the unique opportunity to shape a child’s understanding of God through both words and example.
Raising children in faith is more than bringing them to church or teaching Bible stories. It is helping them discover God’s love, understand His Word, develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and learn to follow Him throughout every season of life.
No parent does this perfectly.
Faith Begins at Home
The home is one of the first places children learn about God.
As parents live out their faith each day, children begin to see what it means to trust, obey, forgive, serve, and love.
Simple, consistent habits often have a lifelong impact.
Read the Bible together.
Pray together.
Talk about God’s goodness.
Celebrate His faithfulness.
Allow faith to become part of everyday conversations.
Teach God’s Word
Scripture encourages parents to teach God’s truth throughout daily life.
Children need more than information about God.
They need to understand His character, His promises, and His plan of salvation through Jesus Christ.
Look for natural opportunities to talk about God’s Word during meals, car rides, family activities, and bedtime conversations.
Model the Faith You Want Them to See
Children often learn more from what parents do than from what parents say.
When children see parents praying, worshiping, serving others, reading Scripture, asking forgiveness, and trusting God during difficult seasons, they gain a living example of Christian faith.
An authentic faith leaves a lasting impression.
Pray for Your Children
One of the greatest gifts parents can give is faithful prayer.
Pray for your children’s:
Relationship with Jesus.
Character.
Wisdom.
Friendships.
Health.
Safety.
Future decisions.
God knows and loves your children even more than you do.
Continue entrusting them to His care throughout every stage of life.
Make Church a Priority
The Christian life was never meant to be lived alone.
Regular worship, Sunday School, Bible studies, youth ministry, and Christian friendships help children grow in faith and become part of the larger family of God.
Children benefit from seeing faith lived out by an entire church community.
Encourage Questions
Children naturally ask questions about God, the Bible, and faith.
Welcome those questions.
Listen carefully.
Search Scripture together.
When you do not know an answer, explore it together.
Honest conversations build a stronger foundation than pretending to know everything.
Teach Grace Along with Truth
Children need both truth and grace.
Teach God’s standards with love.
Correct with patience.
Forgive quickly.
Celebrate growth.
Help children understand that salvation is a gift of God’s grace through Jesus Christ and that following Him is a lifelong journey of faith.
Trust God with the Results
Parents faithfully plant and water the seeds of faith.
God gives the growth.
There may be seasons of joy and seasons of concern.
Continue loving.
Continue praying.
Continue trusting.
God remains faithful, and His work in your children’s lives continues long after your daily influence changes.
