Living at Peace with Others
Pursuing Peace While Remaining Faithful to Christ
Peace is one of the distinguishing marks of a follower of Jesus Christ. While we cannot control the attitudes, choices, or actions of other people, God calls us to do everything within our power to promote peace, demonstrate grace, and reflect the character of Christ. Living at peace with others does not mean avoiding difficult conversations or compromising biblical truth. Rather, it means responding with humility, wisdom, patience, forgiveness, and love.
The apostle Paul reminds believers, “If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men.” Those words recognize an important reality. Peace requires more than one person. We are responsible for our own attitudes, words, and actions, but we cannot force another person to respond in the same way.
Whether in our families, friendships, churches, workplaces, neighborhoods, communities, or even during times of disagreement, followers of Christ are called to pursue peace while remaining faithful to God’s truth.
“If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men.” — Romans 12:18 (NASB 1995)
