Healthy Communication
Speaking and Listening in Ways That Honor Christ
Communication is one of God’s greatest gifts. Through our words, attitudes, expressions, and actions, we build relationships, encourage others, resolve conflicts, share truth, and reflect the love of Jesus Christ. Healthy communication strengthens families, friendships, churches, workplaces, and communities.
The Bible teaches that our words have tremendous power. They can bring healing or hurt, hope or discouragement, peace or conflict. As followers of Christ, we are called to speak with grace, listen with humility, tell the truth in love, and use our words to build others up rather than tear them down.
Healthy communication is not simply about speaking well. It also includes listening carefully, showing compassion, exercising self-control, seeking understanding, and responding with wisdom. As the Holy Spirit transforms our hearts, He also transforms the way we communicate with others.
“Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.” — Ephesians 4:29 (NASB 1995)
